The last time the Grande Prairie Athletics were in Fort St. John they dominated the Senior Flyers 8-3 in large part because of defensive miscues that resulted in odd man rushes. This time around the Flyers played on their best defensive games of the season and it paid off in a 5-0 win.The game saw long time Flyers goaltender Troy Hunt return to the crease for the first time this season. He’s been limited on the ice all season but him and Flyers head coach Gerard Dicaire talked before the game and Hunt deemed himself ready to go.“We buried our chances and Huntsy came in and kept us in the game. He made some key saves. It was a good 60 minutes of hockey I thought,” Dicaire explained. “He’s only skated a handful of times so I talked to him and asked him if he wanted to back up or start and he said ‘I’ve been there before’ so we threw him in and he played well.”- Advertisement -One of the reasons the Flyers were so sharp defensively had to do with a focus in practice of playing in their own end, and it showed throughout the game.“Wednesday’s practice was a tough one,” Dicaire admitted. “We did a lot of d-zone stuff and three on three down low. We only had 15 guys but most of the guys that played tonight were there. It’s starting to come around with accountability and playing in our own end. Guys are talking more.”Scoring in order for the Flyers were Robbie Sidhu, Adam Horst, Cole Calliou (2), and Robbie Sidhu.Advertisement Hunt made 32 saves for the shutout. The Flyers will next be in action at home at 8:30 against the Manning Comets tonight.
