Pair of homers burn Tyler Skaggs in Angels’ loss to Padres

The Angels are 2-2.PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Tyler Skaggs worked a perfect first inning, including a strikeout of Will Myers on a sharp curveball. In the second, though, he gave up a pair of long home runs, to Hunter Renfroe and Christian Villanueva. He recorded four outs before being pulled. Skaggs said he was still satisfied with the effort because of the quality of pitches in the first inning, as well as how strong he felt. “At this time last year I was talking to you guys and I had to be set back because of shoulder injury,” he said. “Today I felt as strong as I possibly could be. Things are looking up.”.… Right-hander Keynan Middleton threw his first pitch of the spring at 97 mph. He worked around an error to throw a scoreless inning. … Lefty Jose Alvarez pitched a scoreless inning in his first outing of the spring… Right-hander Jaime Barria gave up three runs on five hits, including an inside the park homer, in 1-2/3 innings.
